2017 Foster Youth Internship Program Congressional Briefing & Reception

Twelve current and former foster youth are spending their summer interning on Capitol Hill and will use their legislative knowledge combined with their personal experience to educate federal policymakers on opportunities for reform in U.S. foster care. Each intern has researched and will present a creative policy solution on a topic of their personal passion. The briefing will cover pertinent child welfare issues such as:
- Child abuse and neglect prevention
- Quality of care
- Electronic case management system
- Access and awareness of mental health services
- Education resources and financial support
- Youth-centered individualized placement
