Fifth Annual Burton Book Fund Event-Join Us!

Each year, the Burton Book Fund provides $250,000 in textbooks for current and former foster youth who are attending college in California. On Wednesday, August 30, John Burton will host JBAY’s 5th Annual Burton Book Fund Event in Sacramento. We hope you’ll join us and help make college within reach for foster youth.

I entered foster care at age 15, ten years ago. After leaving foster care at age 18 in Santa Rosa, I moved to San Francisco to pursue my education. I’m the first in my family to attend college, so it means a lot to me to finish school.
When I was first at City College of San Francisco, I had to work full-time to afford books and fees. When I started receiving the book fund I was able to work fewer hours and focus more on my education. I completed my AA degree in social and behavioral science and transferred to San Francisco State University. My major is in Liberal Studies and my minor is Criminal Justice.
I have now received support from the Burton Book Fund for seven semesters. I’d like to say thank you to John Burton for being there for us and helping me and many other students accomplish our goals.

There will be a brief program at 6:15 featuring remarks by John Burton, supporters, and current recipients of the Book Fund.
