Free Webinar: Accounting for Implicit Bias in the Application of Predictive Analytics

June 6, 2017 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Free

The Kirwan Institute at Ohio State University works to connect individuals and communities with opportunities needed for thriving by educating the public, building the capacity of allied social justice organizations, and investing in efforts that support equity and inclusion through research, engagement, and communication. The institute’s mission is “we work to create a just and inclusive society where all people and communities have opportunity to succeed.”

In a new white paper, Kirwan Institute Research Associate Kelly Capatosto turns the lens toward predictive analytics in child welfare, the potential hazards of applying these models without accounting for implicit racial bias and other cognitive and structural barriers that face communities of color, and how those hazards can be navigated.

Join Daniel Heimpel, Executive Director of Fostering Media Connections, in conversation with Kelly Capatosto about the white paper findings, and ways that the child welfare community can safeguard against bias in applying predictive analytics to protect children.
