Based in Southern California, the Crail-Johnson Foundation is run by siblings Eric, Alan, Ann and Craig Crail-Johnson. The family steers its foundation, which was founded in 1987, to support projects and programs that “promote the well being of children in need through the effective application of human and financial resources.”
This has come to mean funding efforts around education, health and human services for “economically, socially and physically disadvantaged children,” youth and their families, with the goal of empowering them with “the tools necessary to build a life of quality.”
Major Program Categories: Grants from the foundation offer program support as well as operating support for projects and organizations serving the southern California communities of San Pedro, Wilmington, Compton, Watts, Carson, Long Beach and South Los Angeles.
Education grants fund a full spectrum of projects, ranging from early childhood development and parenting education to college prep and career training programs for high schoolers. “Human services” encompasses child abuse and domestic violence prevention and treatment, food banks/pantries and food distribution programs, homeless services, and youth development/enrichment. Finally, treatment and prevention services are the focus of the foundation’s health grants.
