In a nutshell:
The Jack Gogian Family Foundation is dedicated to serving community-based organizations that improve lives and families in Los Angeles County. Established in 1982 by Jack Gogian himself, the Foundation covers Mr. Gogian’s diverse range of interests, from disabilities to child welfare. In 1994, the Foundation grew substantially due to an influx of capital from the sale of Mr. Gogian’s business, Pacific Cold Storage.
The Gogian Foundation has both a grants program and a scholarship program. The grants program supports Los Angeles-based organizations making an impact for abused and neglected youth, seniors and the developmentally disabled. Within the youth category, it specifically funds those who are living in out-of-home placements or with a pending threat of an out-of-home placement. In addition, the foundation supports organizations that provide mentoring and academic support.
The scholarship program emerges from Mr. Gogian’s interest in benefiting students in the L.A. area. Each year, the foundation determines which schools the scholarships should target, and recently it has worked exclusively with Lennox Academy, Port of Los Angeles High School and Verbum Dei High School. Since its inception the foundation has awarded over 195 scholarships totaling $1.2 million to graduating seniors of L.A. County.
