The Department of Education will give out start-up grants for the ten Performance Partnership Pilots, a program aimed at helping communities better serve disconnected youth by blending federal funds and permitting waivers of certain program requirements.
Interested parties must commit to improving the lives of disconnected youths, who are defined as anyone between 14 and 24 with at least one of the following challenges: Homeless, in foster care, in the juvenile justice system, unemployed, or at risk of dropping out.
Partnerships between government, courts and community organizations are expected, though P3 ventures must be lead by government agencies.
