The Bureau of Children’s Justice (Bureau) is a dynamic new unit of the California Department of Justice (CADOJ) created by Attorney General Kamala D. Harris. Located within the Civil Rights Enforcement Section, the Bureau will use the criminal and civil law enforcement powers of CADOJ to safeguard the rights of children in California. Subject areas include children’s civil rights under the California and United States Constitutions, California’s foster care, child welfare and juvenile justice systems, consumer protection and fraud impacting children, discrimination and inequity in education, public health issues affecting children, California’s elementary school truancy crisis, the human trafficking of vulnerable youth and childhood trauma.
