The Future of California’s Children: What Top Candidates for Governor Think

Today, The Chronicle of Social Change will host a nonpartisan governor’s forum in California to discuss critical issues to children and families with candidates to succeed Gov. Jerry Brown (D).

Building our Future: A Forum on Children with California’s Gubernatorial Candidates will offer an important opportunity to hear from candidates about some of the most important issues related to children’s health, youth justice, child poverty, access to technology, child welfare and educational equity.

In advance of the forum, we asked several top candidates to share their ideas on child welfare, juvenile justice, child poverty, immigration, access to technology, children’s health and educational equity.

Click the links below to read up on the child and family policies of the four candidates who responded:

Gavin Newsom, California’s lieutenant governor

Delaine Eastin, former California State Superintendent of Public Instruction

John Chiang, California’s state treasurer

Antonio Villaraigosa, former mayor of Los Angeles

Today’s event will be hosted by the Los Angeles Trade Technical College, in partnership with the Children’s Defense Fund-California and the Children’s Partnership. Make sure to register here for the free event.
