Predictors of Homelessness during the Transition from Foster Care to Adulthood

Youth who age out of foster care face a number of challenges during the transition to adulthood. Studies have found high rates of homelessness among foster youth who aged out of care. Researchers at Chapin Hall reviewed studies from Illinois, Iowa and Wisconsin of foster youth who aged out of foster care from the age of 17 or 18 until they were 26 and found by age 26, 36% of the young people whose outcomes were known had reported at least one episode of homelessness.
