Principles of Adolescent Substance Use Disorder Treatment: A Research-Based Guide

The majority of adults who have substance abuse disorders began abusing drugs during  adolescence and young adulthood. The adolescent brain is wired to take risks. For young people using drugs and alcohol it is important to seek substance abuse treatment as soon as possible in order to minimize the consequences later in life.
