The Winter 2013/2014 issue of Insights – a publication funded by the California Child Welfare Co-Investment Partnership – assesses early efforts to improve mental health services for children involved in California’s child welfare system.
A 2011 settlement in the Katie A. class action lawsuit forced all counties in California to improve their ability to deliver mental health services without relying heavily on removals and institutions. Insight looks here at efforts in four counties (Placer, San Francisco, Fresno and Los Angeles) to develop better delivery models in advance of the Katie A. deadline of 2014.
The issue looks separately at each county’s efforts, and identifies the progress points and challenges associated with both.
