A white paper released by the Council of State Governments Justice Center provides state and local governments with recommendations designed to improve outcomes for youth in the juvenile justice system.
In “Core Principles for Reducing Recidivism and Improving Other Outcomes for Youth in the Juvenile Justice System,” researchers draw on a strong body of research that suggests alternatives to incarceration may be successful at lowering involvement with the juvenile justice system. The white paper offers guiding principles and successful examples of alternative approaches to incarceration employed by states.
