The California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) has announced a $23 million grant from the California Endowment to be used for outreach and enrollments efforts for Medi-Cal throughout the state.

The Department will award grants to 36 counties in the state to increase awareness of Medi-Cal for those who are eligible but not yet enrolled. The grant will emphasize reaching specific populations such as young men of color; homeless individuals and families; people with mental health disorders; jailed offenders; and families of mixed immigration status and people with limited English proficiency.

DHCS and the California Endowment have specified that Counties that are awarded grants must make at least half of the funding available to community-based organizations. When The Endowment grant is fully implemented, the 36 county agencies or county groups selected are expected to reach more than 500,000 individuals across the state.
