Grants Announced: May 8, 2013
The Coca Cola Foundation announced grants totaling nearly 4 million dollars to address obesity in the state of Georgia, with a focus on childhood obesity as part of their Healthy and Active Lifestyles priority area.
Georgia SHAPE, Atlanta, $1 million to help implement a Georgia SHAPE initiative encouraging 30 minutes of additional physical activity in all Georgia elementary schools.
Community Foundation of Greater Atlanta, $1millon to support the City of Atlanta’s Centers of Hope program. The program, which also serves at-risk youth, brings physical activity, leadership development, nutrition education and academic enrichment to almost 2,000 young Atlantans. Through the grant, the program will expand from its two pilot locations to 10 of the City’s recreation centers.
YMCA of Metropolitan Atlanta and its branches, $75,000 to provide general support to the Empowering Healthy Living initiative.
Piedmont Park, Atlanta, $30,000 to support the Kids Get Active initiative, which includes summer recreation programs for city youth.
Soccer In The Streets, Atlanta, $75,000 for general operating support for the program, which involves youth in soccer as well as life skills, leadership development, and workforce readiness activities.
Ryan Cameron Foundation, Atlanta, $25,000 to support the Healthy Lifestyles initiative.
