In September of 2014, the Alliance for Strong Families and Communities announced that it was developing a child welfare finance reform plan that it would promote with the help of American Public Human Services Association and the National Organization of State Associations for Children.

All’s been quiet on the finance front for a while now, but it looks like things are heating back up. As we covered last week, Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Ron Wyden (D-Ore.)

The Alliance for Strong Families and Communities, an organization representing hundreds of nonprofit human services providers, announced two big developments at its national conference in October. It changed its name (from the Alliance for Children and Families), and moved its headquarters from Milwaukee to its policy shop in Washington, D.C.

Marlo Nash, who led external relations for the Milwaukee-based Alliance for Strong Families and Communities, is leaving the organization in January to become executive director of a start-up organization aimed at connecting policy makers with foster youth and families.

A few weeks back we reported that three groups – Alliance for Children and Families, the National Organization of State Associations for Children (NOSAC), and the American Public Human Services Association (APHSA) – are backing a new federal child welfare financing proposal.

The Alliance for Children and Families has named six new New Voices Civic Engagement Fellows for 2014, awarding each $8,000 to help build community leaders and improve the civic engagement capacity of the human service industry.

The Milwaukee-based Alliance for Children and Families has tapped former Public Allies Vice President David McKinney to lead its new Center for Engagement and Neighborhood Building, which was established this year after the merger between the Alliance and the United Neighborhood Centers of America (UNCA).
