Let the punch flow far and wide: the Juvenile Detention Alternatives Initiative (JDAI) Inter-Site Conference is back! JDAI is the Annie E. Casey Foundation’s efforts to reduce the use of pretrial detention in the juvenile justice system.

In case ya missed it, Youth Services Insider spent last week traversing the country to hit both of the major national juvenile justice conferences. First was the Annie E. Casey Foundation’s JDAI Inter-Site conference in Phoenix; second was the National Partnership for Juvenile Services (NPJS) National Symposium in Pittsburgh.

Greetings from Pittsburgh! From the desert heat of Phoenix, we descend out of the sky on rainy Iron City for the National Partnership for Juvenile Services (NPJS) annual symposium. This is leg two of Youth Services Insider’s juvenile justice two-step.

The leader of the federal juvenile justice agency has curbed plans to attend and speak at events outside the nation’s capital, The Imprint has learned. Robert Listenbee, the administrator of the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Administrator, was scheduled to deliver a keynote address to attendees of a major conference sponsored by the Annie E.

Day Three The final day in the “City Too Busy to Hate” wrapped up a little after noon, and the many stakeholders of the Juvenile Detention Alternatives Initiative have returned home.

Summary: New data available on the KIDS COUNT Data Center highlight the progress made by many states to increase the rates of children in foster care who are living with families and decrease the rates of those placed in institutions or group homes.

It has been quite awhile since Youth Services Insider (YSI) set foot in the third floor conference room of the Department of Justice’s Office of Justice Programs building in Chinatown, the secular cathedral of the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention.
