The Curious Case of the Nonparticipating States

The Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) recently issued a $10.4 million funding competition that on first blush shocked Youth Services Insider. It was a request for proposals (RFP) from nonprofits or local governments in states that are not participating in the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act (JJDPA), through which state juvenile justice agencies receive grants in exchange for complying with four standards in their treatment of youths.

Updated: Amid Cuts to Youth Services, Trump Includes Big Increase to Child Welfare Entitlement

    Youth Services Insider got our hands on a study out of North Carolina State University about a disturbing pattern in the diagnosis of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. According to research done on ADHD diagnosing and medicating trends between 2003 and 2012, some children are mistakenly diagnosed with the condition because it represents a financial boon to school districts.
