Foster Youth Need Support in High School to Succeed in College, New Report Shows

A new report on educational achievement for foster youth found that to help them succeed in college, targeted supports need to start years before they walk on campus.  The report, Pipeline to Success, focused specifically on the 21,186 foster youth in California’s 115 community colleges and the supports they needed to transition from high school to a successful post-secondary education.

Five California Counties Honored for Helping Foster Youth Apply for College Financial Aid

The winners of the second California Foster Youth FAFSA Challenge were announced this week at the Foster Youth Education Summit in Sacramento, recognizing five county offices of education for helping foster youth qualify for financial aid for college.

California Looks to Expand Financial Aid Access for Foster Youth

A California legislator is looking to amend the state’s college aid program for foster youth so it covers more students and loses fewer of them to academic problems. The Chafee Education and Training Voucher (ETV) is a federal-state match program that provides up to $5,000 per year to current or former foster youth to help with the costs of college.
