From Interns to Influencers: Foster Youth Internship Program a Growing Force on Federal Policy

Tiffany Boyd, a former foster youth from Long Beach, Calif., had been interning in the office of Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) all summer. But save a “Hello” here and a “Good morning” there, she hadn’t yet had occasion to speak with her summer employer, who sits on several committees and keeps a hectic travel schedule.

Roundtable Reveals Over-reliance on Child Welfare’s Permanency Exception

Youth Services Insider checked out a roundtable discussion yesterday, hosted by Sens. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and Mary Landrieu (D-La.), where former foster youths and child welfare policy leaders agreed that limitations should be placed on Another Planned Permanent Living Arrangement (APPLA), a case-planning designation meant to serve as a rare exception to family reunification and adoption.
