Feds Ease Restrictions on Funds for Extended Care and Foster Homes

The Trump administration is using a 32-year-old law to loosen some restrictions on foster care funding for state child welfare agencies.  The Administration for Children and Families (ACF) announced in a program instruction yesterday that it would greatly ease the process for getting federal funds for extended foster care, and would permit funds for foster homes that have not been fully licensed.

North Carolina Will Test Wraparound Kinship Care Model

The Duke Endowment has awarded a $950,000 grant to the Family Focused Treatment Association (FFTA) for a North Carolina-based pilot project designed to provide therapeutic supports to foster youth living with relative caregivers.

One More Week to Weigh in on National Foster Home Licensing Standards

The public has until October 1 to weigh in on a Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) proposal for a first-ever national standard on licensing foster homes. The standards, which HHS was directed to establish as part of the Family First Prevention Services Act, sets expectations for safety precautions and best practices for pre-licensing and home studies.
