Sen. Charles Grassley (R-Iowa), speaking at a National Press Club event, said that he and Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.) plan to introduce a bill this week to reauthorize the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act (JJDPA).

This week’s Senate Judiciary Committee “Compliance-Gate” hearing on Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention grants brought a relatively bureaucratic kerfuffle into the political theater.  It isn’t every day that an assistant attorney general testifies at the same hearing as two of her employees, and is asked by a senator – Judiciary Chair Charles Grassley (R-Iowa) – to vow she will not punish them in any way.

In no particular order, here’s a look at some of the most notable developments in child welfare and juvenile justice this year: Foster Youth Uninterrupted The year began with President Barack Obama signing the Uninterrupted Scholars Act, which permits caseworkers to access academic records of foster youth without the permission of a birth parent or court official.

Youth Services Insider came across this solicitation this week from the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention. The agency has $150,000 to spend on a fellow of some repute to help assess the strengths and weaknesses of juvenile data collection on all levels.

We reported on Tuesday that the Obama administration was planning to appoint Bob Listenbee to be the next administrator of the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, and Obama made that official today in a statement announcing the decision.
