Delinquent. Orphaned. Troubled. Aggressive. Neglected. What do each of these words have in common? They are all words used to stereotype and confine youth in the foster care system. As a foster youth I often struggle internally with the decision to reveal my foster status and at which point to do so.

Let’s be honest: Every one of us is guilty of stereotyping and judging others to some degree. And intolerance for people who are not like us is at the root of racism, hate crime and all sorts of evil conduct done by human beings.
