iFoster’s AmeriCorps Program Earns National Prize

  A new California workforce program that has offered transition-age foster youth paid service work as part of the state’s AmeriCorps program has already garnered national recognition. Last week, iFoster, the Truckee, California, nonprofit that helped develop the Transition-Age Youth (TAY) AmeriCorps program, was recognized with the “Best New AmeriCorps Program” award from the Corporation for National and Community Service, the federal agency that administers AmeriCorps.

New Award to Honor Those Who Work with Transition-Age Foster Youth

Report Analyzes California’s THP-Plus and THP+FC Foster Care Programs

A new report from the John Burton Foundation examines trends related to utilization of California’s Transitional Housing Placement-Plus (THP-Plus) and THP-Plus Foster Care (THP+FC) programs during the 2015-2016 year. In 2001, the California state legislature created the THP-Plus Program in response to high rates of homelessness among former foster youth.

    Los Angeles Requests Millions for Homeless Individuals, Families and Youth

    The Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA) submitted an application to the federal government on September 12 for $104,949,390 million for projects to provide housing and services to L.A.’s homeless population, including almost $5 million specifically for transitional housing for youth.

    The Impact of Extended Foster Care: Preliminary Findings of the CalYOUTH Study

    Researchers and child welfare advocates will gather in downtown Los Angeles on May 10 to explore the preliminary findings of the California Youth Transitions to Adulthood Study (CalYOUTH). CalYOUTH is a five-year research project looking at the impact of the California Fostering Connections to Success Act, a California law known as AB 12 that extended foster care to age 21 and took effect in 2012.
