West Virginia College for Current, Former Foster Youths to Open in 2018

After several years of planning, a nonprofit child welfare service provider is preparing to launch the nation’s first-ever college for foster youth. KVC Health Systems plans to open its yet-to-be-named campus in January 2018 in Montgomery, West Virginia.

$2.5 Million from Hilton for Transition-Aged New York Youth

The Conrad N. Hilton Foundation has awarded The City University of New York (CUNY) with a $2.5 million grant to serve transition aged foster youth who are interested in pursuing an associate’s degree within the City system.

The Perfect College Support System for Foster Youth

Last week, The Imprint summarized a report on improving the post-secondary education outcomes of students who are foster youth or aged out of foster care. Interestingly, the report led with a list of promising local programs from around the country, followed by sections identifying challenges for such youth and policy recommendations to help address those challenges.

For Foster Youths at Calif. Universities, Procedural Snags Delay Crucial Chafee Benefits

Federal dollars meant to assist California foster youth with college are being held up by an unsigned agreement between two state agencies, leaving financially strapped students with a $2,500 hole as they returned to classes this month.
